daemon pause behavior

transmission-daemon 2.31 / Linux

I'm downloading a large, sparsely-seeded torrent that should take about six days to download and only downloads in spurts. I just started using transmission-daemon and notice that after the download goes idle, shortly thereafter the torrent will pause. Is this pause expected behavior? Will it 'unpause' itself when needed? I've downloaded its brother-torrents using transmission gui for OS X and they complete as expected.
