Transmission switches integrated graphics
I'm coming across this message because I noted using gfxCardStatus app that when I opened up Transmission, my MacBook Pro graphics switched from Integrated to Dedicated. gfxCardStatus can list the apps that's depending to dedicated, as you can see in the attached image.
What can we do about this? It drains power quickly when using battery.

Re: Transmission switches integrated graphics
What version of Transmission are you using, and what version of OS X?
Re: Transmission switches integrated graphics
I'm getting the same behavior. I'm running Transmission 2.50 (13236), and Max OS X 10.7.3.
Re: Transmission switches integrated graphics
Note that this happens during the "adding torrent" animation. Restarting Transmission after the torrent has been added does not cause the GPU to trigger. This might help finding the issue:

Re: Transmission switches integrated graphics
This still happens in 10.9 GM. Any way to completely disable dedicated graphics for Transmission? If OS X animations can manage on the integrated card, I think the ones in Transmission could do the same.

Re: Transmission switches integrated graphics
Issue persists on Mac OS X 10.9 final. With the new Activity Monitor that shows this battery-sucking bug, I actually wanted to ditch Transmission because of this.… buuut the competition sucks.
Transmission rules, please fix this bug!

Hi x190 (and others),
Thanks for the link - it seems that users there have been able to stop this problem by changing a small setting or file string associated with the app:
https://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/5051#no1
https://trac.transmissionbt.com/changeset/13557
This change does not appear to have filtered down to the end users, and I'm not sure how to enable it myself in the meantime. Can you help, or is this something to just wait for?

Re: Transmission switches integrated graphics
Same problem here. Look forward to a fix to save some battery life.
Re: Transmission switches integrated graphics
Same problem here. Opening transmission causes 60W extra from the wall and the GPU fans to spin faster with only one transfer downloading... OS X 10.9.2, transmission v2.82
Re: Transmission switches integrated graphics
Yes you are right, it levelled down at about 3.0.
HOWEVER, with the help of a plug socket energy monitor, I have discovered that whatever is reported in Activity Monitor has nothing to do with the increase in power usage I get or battery drain for others.
Opening Transmission causes my system to drain an additional 60W of power - even with no active transfers. This extra power used continues even after transmission is closed. This is the only application I have found to do this, I have tried quite a few others.
When GPU is removed (so using integrated graphics only) opening Transmission does not increase power used (activity monitor still reporting power usage around 3.0)
This is happening on both my hackintoshs. One is set to be a MacPro Early 2008, the other a MacPro Late 2013.
Thanks
