How do I stop Transmission from downloading certain files?

Post by daigo »

I'm downloading a torrent that's 2TB large worth of several hundred files, and I have 'de-selected' or 'un-checked' the files I do not want in the Files listing in Transmission so that the total value of files is worth around 10GB since I do not have enough space to download 2TB. However, Transmission keeps attempting to download the files I unchecked and stops the entire download because it complains about not having enough space. I deleted those files I don't want and have already unchecked in the Transmission program, but it keeps trying to download them and creates giant files even though I have chosen not to download them by unchecking them in the Transmission software...how do I forcibly stop Transmission from downloading and creating unwanted files so it won't halt every 5 seconds complaining of not enough hard drive space?

The most current stable version of Transmission is a greater version than the one you linked. Should I still revert back to that previous version instead of using the latest current release one?

I have the same problem - its super annoying as I have to manually delete all the extra files from the download each time although I already unchecked them!
I understand that I may download extra blocks that contain parts of these files, but I am specifically asking Transmission NOT to download the whole file, and it it does, don't save the files!!!

Please help. Using T 2.51 (13280) on Lion.

I guess I'd better dig out this post, than start a new thread.

I'm using latest Transmission 2.92 on MacOS Sierra and I have the same problem. So when I've got a multi-file download, deselect all files but one, the file preceding it would be `like` download. "like" means that Transmission allocates space on my SSD for it, but doesn't download the file.

All the bug reports I've found so far date back to 2012-2008, couldn't find any recent ones. Any advice?

On trac one can no longer add additional comments and new tickets are not allowed https://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/6168#comment:1 .

There has been no migration at this point and no one has posted a corresponding #532 issue on GitHub either.

mike.dld presented a patch for trunk 532-collect-unwanted-blocks-r14572.patch https://trac.transmissionbt.com/timelin ... ate=Update but I have no idea if good testing by anyone had been performed.

The most recent and well tested #532 build for Mac is here https://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/532#comment:221

A current and maintained #532 source is here https://github.com/cfpp2p/transmission

Thanks, the #532 for Mac seems to work fine i.e. no unwanted memory allocations
