Transmission 2.73 GUI "Freeze"/Hangups [Ubuntu 12.04]

Hey guys, spent about an hour google/ubuntuforums/transmissionbt forums trying to debug and solve this problem, but coming up with nothing..

Im on Ubuntu 11.04 x86 w/ 4gb (RAM) & 30gb (HDD Main) 2TB(Storage [torrents]) and Transmission 2.73 with all availble ubuntu updates.

Whenever I am downloading a torrent(s) [of any size, file count, file type, etc..] Transmission GUI will "freeze" or "hang up" roughly ever 20seconds for 10-15seconds. I have tried limiting active torrents to only 1; decreasing max peer count; decreasing max speed; changing ports; and NOTHING is fixing, or even slightly fixing the issue. It is VERY frustrating problem - but otherwise Transmission works fantastic.

I also have changed, and opened ports (both tcp & udp) in iptables and in my routers settings - still nothing helps

When using uTorrent (on Windows 7 on the same machine), I can have unlimited # of torrents, with unlimited # of peers/speed and have no hang up at all. This problem is isolated to Transmission only. No other program will freeze or hangup at ANY given time (even at the same time as transmission).

The Transmission GUI will fade to "inactive" Grey and nothing (within the GUI >>OR<< the Tray ICON) will respond.

What is going onnnn!!! help please & thank you!

This sounds a little bit like https://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/5168, so if you are comfortable building from source, you might try pulling down a trunk tarball from http://build.transmissionbt.com/ to see if it helps any.

that trac. link hit the nail exactly on the coffin (from what my understanding is of reading it), i also read somewhere something about having torrents stored/saved/downloaded onto an encrypted drive causes some issue due to transmission trying to varify the packets or something along those lines
