Raspberry Pi Updating Transmission from 2.52?

Post by Randomp »

Hi,

I am wondering what would be the method to update from Transmission daemon 2.52 to the latest version available for the Raspberry Pi? I am running Raspbian and the latest version in the repos seems to be 2.52, which has a few bugs (up and download arrows not being shown, among other things). I am running my Pi as a energy efficient headless torrenting server with a smb share.

Anyone know how I can go about this?

No other means? Just compiling from source?

If you're suffering from outdated apps, you could try Arch, which is a bleeding-edge distro.
If you dare try it (beware, not debian based), then first lurk the wiki, which has many resources, even for beginners.
The sdcard image is already installed, but without any gui.

Or just replace the binaries from an arch precompiled package (use armv6): http://archlinuxarm.org/packages (you probably only need cli) to your distro's path.
This works, but is not supported in any way.

Hrm, may try that out in the future. I like to run my pi as a headless server (openssh), so no gui is no problem.

I think though, while I have my set up working right now like I want it, I will just wait for Raspbian Jessie to be released which has Transmission 2.77.

Recently jessie was added to main raspbian archive: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... bd1d1665ea
with the apt-pinning you can update only transmission and mantain raspbian to the stable branch
