Bluetack block lists are now pay only - Free alternatives?

As of February 4, 2014, Bluetack Blocklists require a paid subscription. As such, the Block list URL "http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level1.gz" is no longer valid.

Are there any free block list alternatives that can be used with Transmission? If so, please provide the URL to specify in the Transmission config file.

For those interested, I got this answer from a user in the QNAP forums:

In "settings.json" config file, change the blocklist-url to:

http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=bt_level1&fileformat=p2p&archiveformat=gz

This is new URL for previously used blocklist.

It seems the Bluetack one from iBlocklist is not updated anymore due to a paid subscription required.

The closest free alternative is the TBG "Primary Threats" blocklist. This can be used with Transmission by editing the "settings.json" config file and changing the blocklist-url to:

http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=ijfqtofzixtwayqovmxn&fileformat=p2p&archiveformat=gz

I've tried using this URL, and while I can download it myself in my browser, Transmission produces an error:

Unexpected response: <h1>401: Unauthorized</h1>Unauthorized Usere: application/x-www-form-urlencoded

Are there any other alternatives that I can just add to Transmission's settings for it to auto-update?

What form of Transmission are you using? Are you using an RPC username:password?

*facepalms* You're right, I was calling transmission-remote directly instead of my shortcut that supplies the RPC values for me, I just assumed because that was the error I was getting with the non-functional blacklist that the same thing was happening to the new one, the alternative URL seems to working just fine now, thanks!
