Is there a way to disable file preallocation?
I've tried

Code: Select all

defaults write org.m0k.transmission PreAllocation 0
defaults write org.m0k.transmission Preallocation 0
defaults write org.m0k.transmission preallocation 0

but no success.

Then in my case it's not such a good "feature" as I'm using an external HDD in NTFS format so when I try to download something around 1gb it freezes my MacBook for about 10-15 minutes and when i try something larger 4-8gb it just freezes it forever.

I need to have it in NTFS format unfortunately because my TV can only read FAT32 and NTFS.
This freeze happens only when i download a torrent directly to the external HDD. If I copy & paster something from my internal HDD to the external one it doesn't freeze. (it's definitely slower when its format is NTFS than HFS+ but it doesn't freeze) So this makes me believe only the preallocation causes this issue making my macbook unusable and i need to force shutdown it.

I'm trying to prolong my SSD's life. That's why I went with the external HDD.
