Error messages when trying to use SOCKS proxy

Trying to run Transmission GUI (onto a NAS Linux box), using a SOCKS 5 based proxy. After inputting the details in the application settings, I hit OK and get the message :

"network subsystem is unusable"

If I repeat the above, and untick the box 'SOCKS 5' I then get the message:

"404 NotFound404 NotFound
nginx/1.0.15

I get this too. Guess it's broken... even to-date 2018
