Killswitch

Post by bonesaw »

Hello! I am having a problem.

Occasionally, my computer restarts "because of a problem." When this happens, Transmission reopens (from my previously open windows), and begins transfers, even though it is not on my "login items" list. However, at this point, my VPN (which *is* in my login items list) has not opened. This is some sort of bug with the VPN, because the icon in the taskbar does not have the 'open' dot, and there is a running process in the Activity Monitor for the VPN; if I try to open the app, nothing happens, so I have to go and force quit the process from the Activity Monitor, and then try to reopen the app, this technique has been working so far.

I have gone into the VPN settings, and have enabled both the killswitch (the VPN is supposed to quit Transmission when the VPN itself is closed or disconnected), and the autoconnect to my wifi. However, it seems that when my computer crashes like this, my VPN does not get the chance to close Transmission before it is counted as an 'open window,' and tagged to be reopened upon reboot. This means that, when the computer restarts, Transmission opens and begins transfers without the VPN on.

This has happened multiple times while I'm sleeping, and I awake to find my torrents have all been running for hours without the VPN on. Obviously, this is not ideal.

Any way there could be some sort of built-in killswitch functionality to Transmission itself? Or maybe adding an option to pause all torrents upon launch would be simpler? Perhaps there could be an option to exclude Transmission from the process of reopening open windows after a crash.

Thanks!
