TransmissionBT freezes under Ubuntu

Hi,

First of all, Transmission is a great program. It's easy and fast.
But... I'm using Transmission v1.93 (10621) on Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) with kernel 2.6.32-22 on GNOME 2.30.0.
When I try to download a large file (7Gb), I can see that there is no network activity, no harddisk activity and 100%CPU load on the process. Transmission locks up/freezes completely and even after waiting for 8 hours, I have to reboot my laptop cause I can't kill the process. After a reset I restart Transmission and in the activity log I can see that scraping the large file is done without a problem but as soon as it should start download, the program freezes. And when I look at the .PART file of the torrent I can see it is 0kb, so nothing has been downloaded nor created. I searched the forum but the freeze problems only seem to exist with MAC users...

Thanks!

Transmission freezes, or the system freezes?

If the latter, what does "ps lgx" say about the Transmission process?

--jch

Thanks for helping!
Transmission freezes, not the system. The 'window' will turn all white and not show any information or menu.

A ps lgx gives me this information:

F UID PID PPID PRI NI VSZ RSS WCHAN STAT TTY TIME COMMAND
0 1000 16354 1 20 0 70676 15804 futex_ Sl ? 8:03 transmission

edit (woops, wrong process... )

Hi, has this problem ever been resolved? I'm having the exact same issue as the original poster.

Flea, are you on the newest version? Is a torrent downloading at a very high speed? Is this the GTK version or the daemon?

i have the same problem, ubuntu 10.10 64bit
gui transmission 2.04 (11151)
it is periodically (1-2-3 times per minute) freezes for 10-15 seconds and then continue to seeding files.
during this freezes it consume 100% of cpu core and has no any reaction on keyboard/mouse and upload speed lower almost to zero.
file system ext4 on a 500x4 raid 0 array with 450 mb/sec of reading.
ram 12 gb, cpu phenom x6. no swap because ram is more then enough.

What happens if you close Transmission's main window and let it run from the tray? Does its CPU usage drop? I'm asking this because it could be this bug you're seeing: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/655024
