I'm posting this because under my Transmission-->Preferences-->Network setting, it shows "Port is closed" with the infamous red dot. Note that downloading/uploading still works to certain extent; I just want to see if by resolving this error message I can get better and more consistent throughput. Some background info:
Wireless router: Linksys WRT54G
iMac 21.5", Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard
Transmission version 2.11 (11322)
I've done the necessary port forwarding at my router using the instructions here: http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... sys/WRT54G. Note that uPnP is enabled on the router, so by right I won't need to manually forward ports, right? But it shows "Port is closed" without anything done on the router, so I did the manual forwarding anyway. But the error message persisted.
The weird thing is that when I tried accessing the port (55555) using http://www.canyouseeme.org, it says "Success: I can see your service on 218.212.210.51 on port (55555). Your ISP is not blocking port 55555" !!
I generated the following log by checking the "Automatically map port" box, then unchecking it.
AFTER I CHECK "AUTOMATICALLY MAP PORT"-->

So 2 questions:
1. Should I ignore this "Port is closed" message?
2. Should box "Automatically map port" be checked or not ?
Thanks!
Port Forwarded Or Not??
Re: Port Forwarded Or Not??
1: You can. That dot doesn't really change unless it does another test. The GTK version has a "Test Port" button, but the Mac client doesn't. You can have it check by going into the port's text field as if you were going to change it, and pressing enter.
2: Couldn't hurt to keep it checked even with manual forwarding
