Transmission

Every time I try to log in remotely I get an error that says the page cannot be opened and that the server is not responding.

I regularly VNC into my computer as well as SSH so I know how to port forward and I have checked my settings several times.
It there something else I need to install to get the web interface accessible on my iPhone over 3G? It is working over the LAN via bonjour.
I am on Mac OS X 10.6.5, no firewall.

Is the router/gateway (where you mapped the port) in the daemon whitelist?

In settings.json you should see something like: Of course your LAN might be different, so the 192.168.10 should be something else, or even only the router LAN IP (not the WAN IP).

Hmmm, no. In my settings.json I only see this:

I guess I should add that to the file manually and save it?
The first part should be my WAN and the second my LAN? My LAN router is at 192.168.1.1, the computer is at 192.168.1.3...

Wrong file. That's stats.json, not settings.json.

That would explain why it was different!
I dont have a settings.json file on my system anywhere.
What do I need to install to set that up?

Nothing; just stop the daemon and it will create it.

No, the first one (127.0.0.1) is localhost, the rest could be a list of addresses like you show, or a full range using the asterisk... and no WAN address, the daemon never sees that if you are using NAT and you don't mention anything about a DMZ.

There is no such daemon running on my system, even when transmission is running.

I followed the advice on this page:

But activity monitor doesn't show any such daemon running and when I try this terminal comand:
killall -HUP transmission-daemon
I get:
No matching processes were found

Ah, by looking at this link:

it doesn't look like this will work on a Mac because there is no settings.json file...

Maybe I should stick to VNCing into my system and controlling the system from my phone that way...

So if my router is 192.168.1.1 I should add that to the localhost number 127.0.0.1?
I will try this now...

Tried again, still doesn't work, what should I try next?
I disconnected from the wiFi so I am only using 3G and I tried to login by
http://my.ip.add.ress:9091
and also by
http://my.ip.add.ress:9091/transmission/web/
obviously I put my actual WAN IP address before :9091

Does it matter if I port forward via TCP or UDP?

Ah, you're on the Mac version. The Mac version does not use settings.json.

If you want anyone from any IP address to access Transmission, you have to disable "Only allow the following IP addresses to connect".

Ok, I have my settings like that, except I have no authentication yet.....
IT still doesnt work...
I have remote access from four other apps from my phone but I cant get to Transmission from Safari. there is something I am missing here...
Any more ideas?

Hm... Port conflict? Something isn't set up correctly in the port forward? Some firewall rule really is blocking Transmission? I don't know. It should be working if all that is right.

No firewall, and the ports are configured exactly the same way i configured the ports for screen sharing (with two different programs), ssh and iStat.
It works fine on the local network, I just cant access it remotely...

I havent been able to figure this out, even with all of your help, so I guess I will just VNC into the computer and launch it that way when I want to change something. Thanks everyone.
