Feature Request - Seeding Limits

Post by ljgww »

I am user of Transmission on Mac and I am not sure if this feature exists on other variants but this is something I would like to see working and I believe such feature would increase efficiency of transfers.

Currently it is possible to limit upload speed on particular torrent (swarm), but it would be great if it could be possible to limit seeding only to few downloaders and these to be ones that have the higher percentage of file transfered or be able to seed selectively to particular connection (i.e. to prioritize seeding as per connection).

In this way people who has higher download part would get complete torrent faster than others that have small percentage, this shall create more full seeders and make possible to download faster from the source that has complete data.

This shall fight awkward situation that when torrent becomes over 90% of download and only seeder(s) go away torrent lingers for long time with unknown outcome.

Another way is to prioritize torrent logaritmically according to percentage of download.

All the best!

You can already limit the number of peers per torrent. Anything more than that smacks of micromanagement, IMO.

Clients already prioritize the scarcest pieces, so in general they'll tend to try to download from seeders the pieces that none of their other peers has. I don't see what advantage a closest-to-complete strategy would have over that. If anything, closest-to-complete is worse because it puts all the eggs in one basket.
