Transmission and privateinternetacess / VPN proxy

I've used Transmission for a long time, I love it's interface but I want to make sure I'm secure when I'm online so I signed up to Privateinternetaccess (PIA) as a VPN. I want to be able to use Transmission to download things quickly and conveniently like I always have in the past but the VPN seems to be causing a few issues which I'm trying to resolve and I'm hoping someone can help. I have downloaded Transmission 2.11 because it's the final version to offer proxy support. I have got it working, sort of, but I've noticed something strange.

It seems that only public torrents will download - and when they download it works perfectly. Anything on a private tracker simply will not work. Also I tried using checkmytorrentIP to get information and make sure the proxy was working properly but even this tiny 146kb file will not download and I can't get any information. As you can see:

So it seems that public torrents work fine but private one's do not. What could be causing this?

Also is there a more effective way to use PIA and transmission together? When I connected to the VPN for all of my net connection and ran transmission the downloads came to almost a complete stand-still...Has anyone used PIA and Transmission together?

Due to the issue I have reverted back to the current version of Transmission and activated the Port Forwarding setting under the privateinternetaccess control panel. Not ideal and I'd love to hear how others have their Transmission set up.

After you login to VPN and start downloading torrents to make sure your VPN will not be disconnected you can use an application that will monitor your VPN connection.
VPN Watcher is a suggestion and they are offering free accounts here: http://starvpnreviews.com/monitor-your- ... -giveaway/

Wrong. It is a very common misconception that "proxy support" will keep you safe... proxy support was abandoned in Transmission because there is no way to offer full proxy with all the protocols a modern bittorrent client uses (http: easy, everything else, specially UDP: impossible).

Other bittorrent clients claim to support proxies, and pretend that it is safe, they lie, or just don't know. The only proxy technology that may work is SOCKS5.

Your VPN company probably knows best, and it should be in their support documentation, and recommendations. A VPN is not a proxy, but sometimes they offer both, VPN for full time use, and a proxy so you can set up your Web browser w/o need to set the VPN in all your computers.

Private trackers usually don't allow proxies. There are exceptions, but the only way to be sure is to search each site's rules/guides/FAQ, or ask in their forums... and you better search because using a proxy, if forbidden, will cause them to blacklist your account, or drop it.
