I have recently noticed a particularly frustrating issue: Transmission Mac 2.82 (14160) fails to connect to some peers. Most peers connect without any trouble whatsoever, but some simply do not connect. This is not an issue of running into the maximum number of peers for a given torrent or all torrents (I've checked), and is not an issue of peer accessibility.
I've tested with numerous torrents with small peer counts. I've confirmed accessibility by communicating with these other peers directly and confirming that their clients are running and that they are accessible. I've confirmed accessibility by ping and telnet. I've confirmed accessibility by firing up the exact same torrent using uTorrent and watching as all of the peers are able to connect.
I don't get it. I'd say maybe it's Transmission either being nonstandard or not as robust in the face of nonstandard peers or adverse network conditions, but some of these peers have even been the same exact build of Transmission Mac 2.82. So, I don't know what's going on. I've checked the log for anything useful and have found exactly nothing.
I am not sure if this issue is confined to Transmission Mac 2.82, but I cannot test other platforms.
I really don't want to have to switch to uTorrent or another client, and I'd rather not have to run multiple clients, but this is a serious issue for me.
Transmission fails to connect to some, but not all, peers
Re: Transmission fails to connect to some, but not all, peer
Tested with 2.72. No change whatsoever.
