No connection - Transmission 1.54 for Mac OS X 10.4.11 PPC

Post by Ironwhip »

Hi everyone,

I have Transmission 1.54 on my Powerbook G4 1.33 GHz with Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. (Yes, I know the system is outdated.) :)

I am using a wireless router to connect to the internet at home. I configured my Powerbook to have a static IP, and I forwarded a port (for both UDP and TCP) from the router firewall to the IP of my Powerbook. The port is show as OPEN in Transmission preferences.

However, I cannot connect to any tracker. The info button on Transmission showed that there were no responses from the trackers.

Strangely, I have a MacBook with Mac OS X Leopard with an up-to-date version of Transmission. (I forgot the version and I am not at home now.) My MacBook has also a static IP with a port forwarded for Transmission. And it has no problem at all connecting to the same trackers that I tried on my Powerbook.

I even tried other bittorrent clients on my Powerbook G4 (Bits on Wheels, Tomato, etc). It's the same issue: No response from the trackers.

Does anyone have the same problem on Mac OS X 10.4.11? Any solutions?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks, x190!

I know what you mean. I simply can't toss away my 12'' Powerbook! Love it. :D My Intel Macbook can't bring me the same happy feelings my 12'' Powerbook gives me.

I am reluctant to upgrade to Leopard, though. Tiger runs faster on my G4 Powerbook. Besides finding an http tracker, do you think I'll be able to compile a current version of Transmission into PPC or universal binary?

If you indeed try to build the daemon on OSX, you might need the patch from this ticket (if you prefer the trunk over the latest tagged release, you can ignore this post):

https://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/5304

Edit: I wouldn't try to compile the QT version on your Powerbook, simply because with Transmission-Remote-GUI there is an alternative that works out of the box. Depending on your setup compiling QT might take a while.

Guys,

Thanks a lot for your replies. Lots of info to digest as I have no experience building anything with Xcode.

All right, I've installed Xcode. How should I start?

First thing first, which version should I use? Where to download the trunk?
