HTML typo

I'm getting a raw HTML entity in the description of my torrents, "↑".
I'm using Transmission 2.52, transmission-daemon 2.52, on Raspbian 7, viewed with Google Chrome Version 39.0.2171.95 (64-bit).

I'm using Raspbian Linux / wheezy, so I'll try to get the Debian folks to update the repo to transmission v2.84.

Don't bother. Some dependencies (libraries) will not get updates for wheezy. You CAN mix and match repositories to install transmission from unstable or you can build it yourself.

Its easy. Use this:
Transmission 2.84 installation script for Debian Wheezy.
you may have to uninstall the old version before.
