This problem appeared
iMac M1, Mac OS 13.4, Transmission 4.0.3
Internet speed 30 Mb/s
When I download to a local computer - I get the same 30Mb/sec
But when I download to a NAS connected by 1Gb - a maximum of 10-12Mb/s
and the neighboring computer on the network is the same 10-12 Mb/s
Downloading the same torrent to NAS using qbittorrent - 30-33Mb/s
It seems that the program simply does not know how to copy over the network at a speed of more than 100Mbit
Any ideas how this can be fixed?
Thank you
Slow download on NAS
Re: Slow download on NAS
Your connection to the NAS and that neighboring machine is with SMB? Apple's SMB performance sux.
Re: Slow download on NAS
Simple copying to NAS and other computers goes at a speed of 80-90Mb/s
So the problem here is not in SMB

Re: Slow download on NAS
hum. I've been playing with both a NAS and a locally attached RAID box. Leeching to a local USB3 drive is running around 80 Mbps. Then I'm seeing about a 10% speed drop to the local RAID and maybe -20% to the NAS. (this over a 450 Mbps wifi and a 100/20 Mbps Comcast coax connection). qBittorrent is seeing about -10% to the NAS.
Normally, I'd write it off as fragmentation performance, but I'm not liking the numbers either way. I'm going to optimize the NAS and see if there's a difference, then dig into the code to see if there's anything obvious slowing things down.
Aside -- Really shouldn't be torrenting to RAID arrays. Torrenting is by nature very fragmented, the opposite of what these arrays are designed for.
