Problem opening ports.

Post by cblink104 »

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am using an old iMac, macOS Catalina, 10.15.7 and I have a Arris modem.

Here is my transmission output on debug. I have been at this for days and I am having no luck opening any port.

What version Transmission?

That a connection to a tracker failed means nothing. Trackers are under very heavy loads...

So I consider myself handy with computers but I don’t know a lot of the language. I appreciate your help however, I have transmission version 4.04.

Is there something else that would help with a solution?

I followed the help advice on transmission with posting the debug dialog window.

I have also enabled upnp on my modem and in transmission. I have a time capsule but it’s in bridge mode.

Again I appreciate your help and time. Thanks

That log you sent shows that the port was forwarded. Why do you think it isn't?

ok. Um, try forwarding manually.

Turn off upnp in your modem/router then manually open a port and forward it to your Mac. In Transmission, set the port, turn off random and auto. At that point, the port tester should give you a green light...

since TM 4.0.0 i'm crying about this problem of port. i see in version 4.0.4 the problem is not solved :( i can't understand why they fix uneccesary things and not this major problem... i'm on TM 3 and everything is working fine.

I got the green light under the peer listening port but I still can’t seem to seed anything.

Is there anything else I can do?

Ps thanks

Give it time. Seeding can be a fickle thing from minute to minute. When someone wants the item they'll be able to link in and leech.

fwiw, I've got several hundred torrents seeding. Weekday mornings if I get 4 peers that's a lot. Weekend evenings, I might have 150 peers...

I have the same/similar problem to OP. I would like to try these suggested steps of configuring my modem, manually opening a port and forwarding it to my Mac, etc. Essentially the steps outlined above. But I need someone to explain it to me like I'm five. I'm not super tech-y, but I can follow directions. I do know how to access my modem's configuration online, but don't know what exactly to do.

MacOS Catalina (10.15.7), Arris Modem NVG468MQ, Transmission 4.0.4, NordVPN 8.10.4

Since you have a VPN, you don't need to make any changes to your modem. The VPN is already drilling a tunnel thru the modem to the selected end-point. It's there where you need the open port. There should be some settings in NordVPN to enable that. Once you have the port, tell Transmission, and you're good to go!

NordVPN does not provide port forwarding.

So what's the good VPN these days that provides port forwarding? (I'm a long-time PIA user)
