Upload speed issues with first torrent

I generally don't have issues with upload or download speeds when downloading torrents. I created my first torrent with Transmission yesterday though (have used Vuze in the past), and uploaded it to a tracker. The torrent is working properly on the tracker etc. But my upload rates are all over the place. They constantly flash back and forth from zero, to painfully slow speeds of about 16 kb's max. 7 peers are showing and downloading the torrent from me.

Again, I have no speed issues with other torrents. Upload and download are always normal speeds for my connection. Is there any reason I would be having issues only with a torrent I created? Anything I can check in my settings?

Edit: forgot to mention I am using the current release of 1.50

An update, restarting the program several times seemed to eventually solve the problem.
