Several build numbers for one version?

Why can there be builds from several revisions for one version?

1.22: mac build: 6189 tarball: 6191
1.42: mac build: 7494 tarball: 7495
1.50: mac build: 7886 tarball: 7887
1.51: mac build: 7958 tarball: 7970

Is there a technical reason for this?
A tracker I'm at filter out Transmission based on the build numbers, so their allow list has up to four builds listed for every version, they think it's a mess..
I've suggested they match it on the version number instead, since you postfix it depending on the type of build (official, beta, nightly)

They are different because it uses the highest revision number of all files used, and different systems use different files. They should use version number (ie 1.51).

Especially since non-release versions are not 1.51, but 1.51+ etc., they definitely should use the release number.
