Transmission

as the title says when ever I have transmission running the speed of my wifi on my iphone is very slow, is this normal????
i have a modem which is attached to my wireless router but the thing is my mac runs off Ethernet and not wireless, wireless is only for my apple tv and my iphone
confused????
any advice
