Port Forwarding Issues

Post by Wonton »

Hi,

I guess this isn't anything new and a popular topic on these forums, however I recently seemed to have joined the 'bizarre' many to have recently been put in the unfortunate situation of having closed Port. I am running a wireless network on a D-link 624+ and I have 2 other computers both Mac and Windows seems to run transmission fine, with open ports.

I have read through the stickies as well as the wiki links provided, but it still has not rectified my situation. UPnP has been enabled, tried manually port forwarding, it seems that I have exhausted all avenues.

Exact same issue here. I have tried the manual route without success. Have spent hours combing through this forum and the Transmission Help file trying every recommend solution. Still no success--Still I get the little red dot and 'Port is Closed'. I'm running a 2Wire Router (2701HG-B) via AT&T DSL.

Transmission Guru's, please help! My download speed is a measly 1KB to 5KB. I have followed every other step in the FAQ to resolve this issue to increase the download speed. The port forwarding issue is the last thing I can get resolved.

Log file when 'Automatically Map Port' is toggled:

Wonton, I don't know if it is relevant but usually local addresses above 100 are handed out via DHCP. Are you using manual addressing? That is kind of a requirement for using port forwarding. Have you tried disabling UPnP? There are some instances where it causes problems.

Dilaughin, I think this is key: "2009-06-17 12:41:35 -0500 natpmp.c:73 [Debug] Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): readnatpmpresponseorretry failed. natpmp returned -7 (the gateway does not support nat-pmp); errno is 61 (Connection refused)"
Try disabling UPnP and setting things up manually. Maybe something on your router is interfering with the process (like if it is blocking the UDP that NAT-PMP is using to try to configure).

I have the same issues, although I am using an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS). No matter what I do I cannot get the green light. Downloads still occur but i think they could be faster.

I have the same issues w/ an Airport Express. My log output actually says that the port is successfully forwarded via NAT-PMP (after being at first unable to discover UPnP), but the light stubbornly stays red. I also believe my speeds could be faster -- upload is way faster than download on well-seeded torrents, which makes no sense to me. Here's what my log looks like when I toggle "Automatic port mapping" as instructed (public IP obfuscated by me):

2009-07-03 17:22:17 -0400 port-forwarding.c:166 [Info] Port Forwarding: Stopped

2009-07-03 17:22:27 -0400 natpmp.c:68 [Info] Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): sendpublicaddressrequest succeeded (2)
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 upnp.c:97 [Debug] Port Forwarding (UPnP): upnpDiscover failed (errno 0 - Unknown error: 0)
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 upnp.c:117 [Debug] Port Forwarding (UPnP): UPNP_GetValidIGD failed (errno 0 - Unknown error: 0)
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 upnp.c:120 [Debug] Port Forwarding (UPnP): If your router supports UPnP, please make sure UPnP is enabled!
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 port-forwarding.c:88 [Info] Port Forwarding: State changed from "Stopping" to "Starting"
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 natpmp.c:68 [Info] Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): readnatpmpresponseorretry succeeded (0)
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 natpmp.c:137 [Info] Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): Found public address "68.xx.x.xx"
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 natpmp.c:68 [Info] Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): sendnewportmappingrequest succeeded (12)
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 natpmp.c:68 [Info] Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): readnatpmpresponseorretry succeeded (0)
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 natpmp.c:218 [Info] Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): Port 50010 forwarded successfully
2009-07-03 17:22:35 -0400 port-forwarding.c:88 [Info] Port Forwarding: State changed from "Starting" to "Forwarded"

So I think I *am* forwarded, but the light never turns green, so maybe that's just some kind of bug in the preferences view? I still can't figure why the download speed won't increase -- the UL pipe is filled to capacity all the time.

hello,

I'm using a thomson TG784 router and I also cannot seem to get a green light even though according to the log the port forwarding is successful ? :

Don't forget to check your OS firewall! Its amazing how many people overlook that.

Make sure DHCP is not interfering with your port forwarding!

The OS firewall is off
I'm not sure about DHCP interfering?…
Manually forwarding the port on the router switches on the green light. It also works with www.canyouseeme.org
It seems that Transmission can't forward ports with UPnP on my router (Thomson TG784)?
UPnP Seems to work with ShareTools though !

Same router - Thomson TG784 and same problem. I also tried Deluge bittorrent client and got the same problem. So this is probably not Transmission's fault.

If your using UPnP, turn off port forwarding. Have you tried disabling UPnP and assigning a static IP.....worked for me :D
