Active connections with no torrent file active

Post by travtufts »

Apologies if this has been covered before. I did my best to search the forum.

I tend to keep Transmission open even when no torrents are downloading or seeding, so that once I download a torrent file to the watch folder everything starts right up automatically. I noticed today, though, that when Transmission is open it is connecting to a bunch of external IPs (about 8/second) even when there is no torrent file open.

As someone who doesn't like a lot of anonymous connections (at least not when I'm aware of them) is there something I can do to stop this? Clearly quitting Transmission between torrent downloads would be the easiest, but I like keeping it open thanks to the watch folder and web interface (both GREAT additions).

Thanks!

Anyone have an idea what these connections are doing open when no torrent file is loaded?

Most likely they're incoming connections from peers that got your IP address either from the tracker or by trading peer lists with other peers, and they don't know yet that you've pressed the stop button. I wouldn't worry about it.
