Transmission kills connection

Post by mikeynl@gmail.com »

Hello, I've seen this problem mentioned before, but no answer. If I have transmission on, and quit the program or pause the downloads it happens quite often that I can't get online at all. I have to reboot the router before I can get back online. Any idea what the problem is?

OS X 10.5.7 here and transmission 1.72. The connection is through a wireless.

Bittorrent protocol is very network intensive. It sounds like you've exposed a bug in your router software/firmware. I would guess if you swapped out the router for another brand you wouldn't have the problem. If that's not something you can easily do, maybe look online to see if your router software/firmware is up to date.

From my own experience, I had loads of problems with a Netgear ProSafe router, switched to an Apple 2009 Time Capsule (Airport with backup), and all my problems went away. And unfortunately in that case, the Netgear I had was at the latest firmware update available (which was very old... 2007 or so.)

limit your upload speed. that should maybe do the trick (look for a site that looks what your max upload speed it and set it to 75% or lower then that) because if your upload speed is to high your router will block your download speed.
