Snow Leopard Problems w/Transmission, uTorrent, Vuze, etc.
Snow Leopard Problems w/Transmission, uTorrent, Vuze, etc.
I installed snow leopard over the weekend, and now I'm having transmission problems:
1. Bandwidth caps no longer work - at least on the download side anyway
2. Once transmission starts, and transfers begin in earnest, my network daemons break and become un-responsive
3. I cannot even down the interface via terminal session - reboot is required
I am running 1.7.4
Any ideas?

Re: Snow Leopard Problems
You are not the only one. I haven't experienced bandwidth caps not working but I have experienced numbers 2 and 3 on your list.
Re: Snow Leopard Problems
Also experiencing numbers 2,3 here in Snow Leopard (10.6) and Transmission 1.74.
Re: Snow Leopard Problems
Just to let the both of you know, I'm running version 1.61 of Transmission just fine on Snow Leopard 10.6. You can get it here if you want to try it out for yourselves:

Re: Snow Leopard Problems
I don't know exactly what you mean with network daemons, but I think I'm experiencing the same problems.
When I start transmission (1.74 or 1.75b or even one of the nightlies) at first everything works pretty much (expect for the occasionally overshoot of the bandwidth caps).
But after 5 minutes or so, airport simply loses the ability to keep a connection.
It can't even find a single wireless network. Leaving me with no choice but to restart each time I have transmission running for over a few minutes.
(sometimes the menubar also freezes)
Also with transmission open and running, when I try to use any other app which connects to the internet, airport loses it's connection almost instantly...
I'm using 10.6.1 (clean install) and Transmission 1.75b2 at the moment

Re: Snow Leopard Problems
I'm having the same problem. It is also described here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... D=10128935.
I thought my number of connections was set to high, but lowering that didn't solve anything.

Re: Snow Leopard Problems
What happens if you disable the DHT?
Re: Snow Leopard Problems
same problems
safari can't get any page opened
and after a while airport gets the problems described above

Re: Snow Leopard Problems
Thanks for your suggestion jhc. I hate to disable your code contribution, but it seems better for now.jch wrote:What happens if you disable the DHT?
I'll report back in a couple of days.
Re: Snow Leopard Problems
Back already. Disabling DHT and PEX didn't help.

Re: Snow Leopard Problems
For me this problem persists on *any torrent client...
Re: Snow Leopard Problems
Yep, I tried with uTorrent and the same happened.
I'm going to try surfing to an ip when this happens again. Some people are thinking SL is having DNS issues.

Re: Snow Leopard Problems
Me again… I am actually noticing a difference now, after longer use. I maybe get one or two disconnects tops, per six hour torrent session or so. It used to be every half hour.
There is definitely somthing wrong with Snow Leopard, but disabling DHT probably lowers the connection count or something, which makes the problem occur less often!

Re: Snow Leopard Problems w/both Transmission and uTorrent
[edit: changed subject to reflect that this really does appear to be related to SL and not just Transmission]

Re: Snow Leopard Problems w/both Transmission and uTorrent
Hey everyone,
I have exactly the same problems, I even tried uTorrent under Parallels and the WLAN crashed 30 sec later. It has definitely sth to do with torrent / many peers or high bandwidth usage. I tried to limit both peers and bandwith in Transmission but I can't find any stable settings.
I also tried to change the /etc/sysctl.conf file
but apparently that had no effect at all.
So, any hint would be very much appreciated.
//edit
I just tried to run uTorrent under Windows XP Boot Camp - unfortunately the WLAN crashed several times as well. So it might me more of a router / hardware issue than just a Snow Leopard bug.
Cheers!

net.inet.tcp.rfc1323=0
net.inet.tcp.recvspace=32768
net.inet.tcp.sendspace=32768
net.inet.tcp.win_scale_factor=1
net.inet.tcp.sockthreshold=0
