[SOLVED] Continuing download from a different client

Hello,
I've recently set up Transmission on my Mac and have been downloading quite a few files with it.
I'd like to leave Tranmission running all the time but I'm reluctant to do that since my Mac Pro uses a lot of power.
So I've installed Linux (Debian) and Transmission on an old laptop and plan to leave that running instead.
The problem: I have a number of downloading torrents that I'd love to transfer to the Linux client without having to restart them from scratch.
I've successfully moved the downloading files to an external hard disk which I can read from Linux. What's missing is the state information about the transfer progress. I don't know (a) where Transmission on the Mac actually stores the state information about the downloads and (b) even if I had that information I don't know if it's possible to just copy it from the Mac to the Linux client and restart.
Can anyone shed some light on whether this is possible, and if so, how to proceed?
Thanks
