...and I'm happy to be here!
But, I've got questions about things I could do in the Azureus transfer window that I don't seem to be able to do in the Transmission transfer window, and I wondered if the community here would tolerant enough to answer the following n00b questions!
1) Azureus allows me to move items up and down the order of the download list and have items at the top download before items lower down. For example, say I've got 3 downloads going and I add another one and want it to download before any of the existing ones. I select it, click the 'move to top' icon and boom, it jumps above the others and starts. I can't work out how to achieve this in Transmission. I can force it to start, and I can set a priority, but neither of these seem to place it ahead of other downloads at their expense.
I know I can sort the list by priority, speed, etc, but none of these seem to impact on the download priority. Any ideas?
2) If I select 'Move data file to...', while something is downloading, will that impact on the download in any way? Azureus would get mighty confused if I moved the data file while downloading but I suppose because it's an option in Transmission it keeps track.
3) Is there an option to have Transmission automatically remove from the Seed area (and indeed the whole transfer window) any torrent that has seeded to the ratio I set in the preferences?
4) Is there any way to split the transfer window graphically so that it isn't one big scrollable list, and rather two scrollable lists - one for downloads, one for seeds?
I do love it though.
Cheers,
Mr ED209
I've defected from Azureus/Vuze - questions!
Re: I've defected from Azureus/Vuze - questions!
To answer number 2, Transmission keeps track of your download when you use the Move data file to... command.
I do not believe number 3 can be accomplished (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Number 4 can somewhat be accomplished, but in a different fashion. Groups can be set up. I have three groups for each of the trackers I frequent: downloads, seeding, and my seeds. I have rules set up to automatically open downloaded a torrent file and place it in its tracker's download group. When its done downloading I move it to that tracker's seed group. To save UI space I keep all of my seed groups collapsed and expand them as needed.
Hope this helps you out.

Re: I've defected from Azureus/Vuze - questions!
That's great, thanks for those tips - the groups tip is a nice one, thanks. On the same note, is it possible to set Transmission up so that any torrent that doesn't meet any set group rules automatically goes into, say, the red group - to save me having to set it on the download approval window every single time? I'm all for automation
I'm still searching for a way of bumping a bunch of torrents up to the top of the queue and have them start immediately, bumping whatever was already downloading down to the bottom of the queue where they have to pause until there's space in the queue again. I can pause already active torrents and force activate the ones I want now, but that means I have to remember to unpause them later. There's got to be a better way of doing that!
Right?

Re: I've defected from Azureus/Vuze - questions!
To answer question 3, Transmission can be set to automatically pause torrents after they have reached a specific download-to-upload ratio. Question 4: There is a filter bar that allows you to list the torrents based on their state: All, Active (Anything that is Downloading, Seeding, or Verifying), Downloading, Seeding, Paused.
Re: I've defected from Azureus/Vuze - questions!
Yup, I've got the auto-pause feature activated already. I'll mak more use of the Filter for batch removing things that have finished seeding.
I notice nobody has any solutions for moving a new torrent to the top of the queue at the expense of anything currently downloading. Is this because it's not possible other than manually pausing current downloads then remembering to manually unpause them again? That seems like a really significant omission if so!
