Transmission 1.75 hangs when trying to quit

Post by stephentan »

I'm wondering if anyone has a similar problem. I'm using Transmission 1.75 but when I try to quit it, the system hangs. It happened with the earlier versions of Transmission and now it's happening with 1.75.

I even paused all the torrents before quitting but the system still hangs.

Would appreciate any advice on how to sort this out.

Thanks.

I can't remember a time since 1.0 when I didn't have to force quit Transmission.

I'd probably say to try these two things: (1) using the latest nightly build (2) if it still happens, could you create a new user in the computer to see if it still happens.

By the way, I wouldn't recommend using force quit whenever you want to close Transmission...

Hello Ryoujin
Thanks for your note. But what is:
a) Latest nightly build - how do I get this? My Transmission runs 24/7. Do I need to stop it for the nightly build?
b) How do you create a new user?

Check my signature for a link to the Nightly Builds. Keep in mind, tho, that they are betas, not stables (still, they usually have fixes for stuff reported after the last stable release, new stuff, things like that).

What OS are you using?

Mine was doing this and I am on the Ubuntu/Linux version and at bottom right I changed the counter/notification for amount sent to Total Transfered instead and it closes a lot faster now, like within a second... Before it took like 5 seconds or more sometimes... So maybe try changing that.

i used to notice issues exiting the client. Though, it seems like this only happened when i had a massive torrent list or massive data transfers. It normally took no longer than 30 secs or so to exit. I dont know a fix for it but you can always try starting transmission with a different config directory to see if its the amount of torrents in your list.

Is this still an issue for people? I have yet to ever use any version of transmission on any computer that didn't hang when you quit. Often it crashes my computer and I have to force shut down the machine. I'm not talking about it taking a few seconds or even a few minutes like someone mentioned. I'm talking about every time I quit the app, I wait hours or even days before I force quit.

At the moment, transmission is in the dock with a dot under it indicating that it's running but when I go to activity monitor it's not listed. It's been like this for over an hour now.

Transmission is by far the worst piece of software I have used for the past 15 years that I've been using computers. Why do we have to accept a program that with every iteration refused to quit?

I hate this program. Unfortunately, it's the best at what it does over all. I just want to quit the app without having to reboot my computer every time the developer issues an update. Is that really so much to ask?
