Updated to latest version. Cannot Connect or Open Ports Now

Post by kittyzilla »

Transmission has stopped working and I can no longer connect to any seeders. When checking the settings page, I found that it displayed my port as closed. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to get the port open again and the debug message reports successful connections. Nothing has changed in my network configuration and everything was working fine prior to me updating to the latest version. Here are the debug log messages:

I am running a Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard and Transmission Version 1.75 (9112). Help?

Go to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ to see if your port is really open, also allow incoming connections for Transmission in the Security Pane of your System Preferences.
You can also try updating to 1.76 now.

I had the same issue for the last two Transmission builds (1.75 and 1.76), and I was ready to give up, but I tried one last combo of settings and finally got things to work (at least for the time being).

I'm not sure this will help you, specifically, but I wanted to post it since I know how frustrating this can be.

For the record, I'm running Leopard 10.5.8, Transmission 1.76 and use an old AirportExtreme (circa 2003).

My *OLD* settings looked like this:

Airport Utility > Port Mapping
I entered all the public ports I'd tried out and mapped them to the same ports on my private IP. I've been using ports in the low 50000s.
Transmission
Port: 51XXX
Automatically map port {CHECKED}

Like I said, that config worked for a long time until 1.75 rolled around and something changed, though my settings stayed the same.
I fiddled with my settings, changing around mappings and turning things on and off until finally the thing that did it was this:

1. Make sure the port you want to use is mapped on your router (in my case, an Airport). You will need to restart the Airport.

2. Try UNCHECKING the port mapping box in Transmission. Quit Transmission and restart it.

Open up Transmission again and hopefully you'll see a green light if you've mapped your ports correctly. I really hope this works for you. I have no idea why my install stopped working, but this got it running again.

Good luck!
