Transmission disturbing airtunes streaming

Post by kaz219 »

It may very well be my router which is too weak for 2 airport express upstreams and bittorrent, but I just wanted to ask if somebody here has the same problem.

I'm uploading at 250kBps (bytes here, not bit), but the sound on the speakers connected to the airport express sometimes stops, then starts again. It is very often mute on both airport express at the same time, so I would exclude a hardware defect in either a speaker or an airport express.

I noticed that when I quit Transmission, the problems stops just 1s before the Transmission icon disapear from the Dock. Sometimes there is no problem though, Transmission and airtunes get along very well with each other.

Anybody has a similar problem? A solution maybe? (restarting Transmission helps sometimes for me, limiting the upload and/or download don't). Worth noticing: the uploading continues, even when the sound drops on the remote speakers, so the problem is very likely to be in the router (Fritz!Box 3170).

What happens when you globally disable the DHT?

I'm testing it, but it doesn't seem to help. Since these interruptions are really irregular, I have to test it for a long period of time. For now, all I can say is that it does also happen with DHT deactivated, but it seems to be less often. What's for sure is that everytime the sound is interrupted, I can see that the download rate of Transmission goes down, not sure what it means...

Why do you think DHT could have an influence on this?

Is PEX also relevant?

The DHT has the tendency to overload the NAT tables of buggy routers. I just wanted to get that out of the way.

No.
