Ok, I got 2.80 working by following the instructions in the link provided by x190.

- Deleted Transmission files in ~/Library/Preferences/
- Trashed the app
- Reinstalled

Since I updated to 2.80, downloading has screeched to a halt. Port is open and nothing else has changed, but now I can't connect to any trackers.

Is this the place where possible bugs get reported?

Transmission 1.90

I am not able to remove the last tracker in the list of trackers: selecting the tracker and then clicking the "-" (minus) button does nothing. This function was working well until I updated to the latest beta version of Transmission.
