Transmission kills my internet connection

Post by hammarst »

Hello i have a problem using Transmission.

Just installed Transmission version 1.01. On my PowerBook G4 running MacOSX v 10.4.11.

My problem is :
Everytime I start Transmission it effectively kills my Internet connection for every other program in my network. Adium loses contact with both MSN and ICQ server, Safari can't load any page, my Gmail plugin goes offline and so on. And it even affects other computers on my network, my stationary PC running WinXP SP2 also suddenly loses connection with the internet. As soon as I shut down Transmission everything goes back to normal again. I have a direct internet connection with a ethernet jack in my apartment. I also have a Netgear WGT624 router connected to it. The most mysterious thing is that Transmission is working perfectly and I get good download speeds at aprox. 2/3's of my maximum ISP speed.

Anyone has a solution??

I'm having the same issue. iMac Core 2 Duo, Leopard 10.5.1, & Linksys WRT54GS here. Any ideas?

I am running 10.5.1 on a MacBook Pro. I am connected to the internet with an ADSL modem and two airport expresses forming a network at my home. I have just switched to Tansmission from Azureus, and I was very happy, but lately have been having problems losing my internet connection (and phone connection, since the ADSL runs through the phone lines). I have to reset the modem. Then I run Transmission some more and after about 4 hours or so, the same thing happens.

Same problem here. I thought it was my connection which had something wrong with it. I have however closed down transmission on our computers at home, and since then there haven't been any problems.

Okey...seems like a lot of people have the same problem, any solutions out there?? Please, I really like the programme otherwise, but I can't continue using it if this bug persists.

Yep, same issue here. It kills the internet connection and also tends to beachball/hang a lot. When it *does* work it only downloads at about 50 or 60 KB/s (I have a 15Mb line and these same torrents download at 1.2 MB/s in uTorrent...something is clearly very wrong with Transmission).

Man, I was really hoping to ditch my Parallels/uTorrent setup for Transmission once it hit 1.0 but it looks like there's some issues to iron out still. Nice in theory, but it's still kind of acting like a beta.

Could you try a nightly build higher than r4652 and report your findings?

This kinda sounds like another bug in T that popped-up from nowhere and had been fixed (twice ;) now) in v1.0.1 and will definitely be fixed in 1.0.2. Could you try the nightly too and check wether your beach-ball problem has disappeared? (though there should be some test releases in the forum soon, I think)

Hello!

Just installed a nightly (r4653) on my PowerBook. But the problem is the same. Transmission seems to work perfectly, but as soon as I launch the program all other programs and devices on my home network loses contact with the internet(even my Wii-console). Just wanting to point out that Transmission still has contact and downloads at good download speeds...

Very odd...anyone??

I just tried today's (4664), added one torrent, and it immediately started beachballing and then hung. And it killed my internet connection while it was at it until I did force-quit.

I am running Leopard with all the latest updates, I have a Linksys WRT54G router (running Tomato firmware), which I am connected to with gigabit ethernet, and am downloading files to a mounted Samba network share on a Linux server.

Was there a hang report in LOG FILES > ~/Library/Logs/ > CrashReporter > Transmission?

I didn't see anything recent in the crash log, so I cleared it and restarted Transmission. It beachballed once for about 4 seconds, then it started working. It's been running for a couple minutes without issue now. My Internet connection seems OK too. Weird. I'm getting decent speeds as well.

EDIT: OK, there's a bit of a problem. Once that first torrent was running well, I went ahead and added a second one. Well, Tranmission beachballed and became unresponsive for probably about 20 seconds shortly after the second torrent started. I think this is the same thing that happened to me when I added the first torrent, I just didn't wait long enough for it to come back to life. So it seems to temporarily lock up whenever I add a torrent.

EDIT 2: Where the hell did my post right after this one go? I even posted a crash log, from when Transmission crashed after I tried to follow the dev's suggestion, and my post got deleted??? WTF!

Try setting the router IPv6 support (under advanced) from local to tunnel. Does that change the behavior any?

I am having the same problem with 1.01, my internet connection gets completely destroyed with it open even if it is only transferring 1/10th the data it normally does in other versions. 10.4.11 with a DI-524 router.

The only useful thing I can also mention is that I have been using nightly r4526 and it is totally awesome so whatever went wrong it happened after that.
