Transmission quitting randomly

Post by vid »

Hi there,

I have been using Transmission for quite some time and have never had any problems... until now.

Transmission seems to be randomly quitting on me. I open it and leave it to do its thing, and after some time I find that it's closed. No error message, nothing.

I had a look in the console and all I could find was this:

17/01/09 12:37:17 PM com.apple.launchd[113] ([0x0-0x2f02f].org.m0k.transmission[433]) Exited with exit code: 1
18/01/09 10:06:28 AM com.apple.launchd[113] ([0x0-0x3c03c].org.m0k.transmission[652]) Exited with exit code: 1

19/01/09 9:38:13 AM com.apple.launchd[113] ([0x0-0x172172].org.m0k.transmission[10935]) Exited with exit code: 1
19/01/09 10:48:33 AM com.apple.launchd[113] ([0x0-0x17d17d].org.m0k.transmission[11233]) Exited with exit code: 1
19/01/09 7:12:31 PM com.apple.launchd[113] ([0x0-0x1cd1cd].org.m0k.transmission[13612]) Exited with exit code: 1

I'm using Leopard, 10.5.6. Tranmission is version 1.42 (7494).

Cheers :)

I've just upgraded to 1.50b2 (7729) and am still getting the same error, with the same readout in the console.

Any ideas?

Still seems to be happening, although there was a time (using 1.50b2) that it was not crashing. I don't seem to have installed any new applications or changed anything - it simply started crashing again.

I have upgraded to 1.50b3 and it is still occurring, same quit message in the console. I've got about 17 torrents running - one 4.5GB and one 8GB+. Could the size of these torrents be an issue?

I'm having a similar problem all the sudden (running 10.4.11 on G5). Couldn't have anything to do with the file size since I have been running smoothly for a good month with consistent sizes of torrents (and haven't started a new torrent in some time, just seeding right now).

When I open Transmission, everything seems fine for about 15 - 30 seconds. Everything is starting up with no peers connect. But as soon as anything happens (either download or upload) the program immediately quits itself without giving any error screen or the typical "this program has unexpectedly quit." But something interesting recently happened. When I turned on "ignore unencrypted peers" (suggested from the other thread), I finally got an official crash screen and therefor, was able to get a log. Here it is and hope this make sense to someone:

Also, I tried downloading the latest beta to see if it have been fixed but got this error on opening:

"You cannot use the application "Transmission" with this version of Mac OS X."

Must be an intel only release?

I think I was downloading the wrong version. Went to the homepage and downloaded from there instead of the nightly and now everything is back up and running.

Thanks all and I promise to try not to be this dumb in the future.

Hrm. I've just upgraded to the latest beta and it's still quitting randomly. Sometimes it'll stay open for a long time, others around 5 minutes. Is there any way I can get a crash report out of it? I can only find this in the console at the moment:

([0x0-0x1d91d9].org.m0k.transmission[13300]): Exited with exit code: 1

I'm having the same issue and started this week:

Version: 1.42 (7494)

Nothing related to Transmission at ˜/Library/Logs/CrashReporter

Pretty weird... No error messages. At first I tought my MacBook was rebooting randomly, cause I was AFK when it first happened. Then it crashed again while Safari and iTunes were open, so I realise that it wasn't a hardware issue. The third time I saw: exited without "quitting" message at the dock and when I reopen the app, the downloads are checked for bad CRC. btw, this is the best torrent client. ever. thanks for all the effort

have the same issue recently (a few weeks). every version of TR that I used does this, this is what I have in the console:
09.19.2 18:46:00 com.apple.launchd[210] ([0x0-0x138138].org.m0k.transmission[7943]) Exited with exit code: 1
Transmission just silently disappears. No error, no waiting time, just ... GONE. When I relaunch it, it checks all torrent downloads for problems, which is quite annoying, since recently it quits every 5-15 minutes !

edit: more information about my setup. first generation Intel iMac 20", all Apple Leopard updates. Doesn't matter which apps I have running at the same time, it seems. Will try to quit also the small ones and see.

edit2: only one active transfer (two others are paused), all applications closed (even the background apps that appear next to clock), still quits!!! there is no other activity on the mac, except for this one transfer

new entries in the console:
09.19.2 19:14:58 com.apple.launchd[210] ([0x0-0x140140].org.m0k.transmission[8038]) Exited with exit code: 1

I noticed, that if I _DON'T_ have any paused transfers, the random exits don't happen anymore. Can anyone else verify, or it's just a coincidence?

i have an imac with the latest leopard update. i have transmission 1.50 and i've had this problem for months. the program simply quits without warning. it tends to happen more when there is an active transfer. sometime it happens 10 times a day sometimes a few times a week.

if anyone needs info (like a log of my activity) to try and debug this, just ask.

I have been having problems when I go to remove or pause a torrent Transmission (1.50) will randomly quit. Sometimes this willhappen 2-3 times before I can actually pause or remove the torrent, no error. Nothing.

running 10.4.11 on a PPC G4.
