Transmission 1.4.2 works very reliably for me on my Mac running 10.4.11 with the necessary security updates.
But there are a good number of healthy torrents that Transmission refuses to start.
I have lots of torrents running for files of all sorts from all kinds of trackers. But I still encounter about 5% of torrents that refuse to begin in Transmission, despite there being hundreds of seeders. Transmission insists that there are zero seeders, when several torrent listings confirm that hundreds of people are seeding right at that moment in time.
I have restarted by system, performed minor maintenance, reinstalled Transmission, and confirmed that my router's config is correct. I also tried downloading the torrent files from different torrent listing. The problem persists.
What is the cause?
Version 1.4.2 will not download certain torrents
Re: Version 1.4.2 will not download certain torrents
Transmission 1.50 has corrected a number of issues regarding peer connection. If you look at the change log, it says:
Personally, I'm getting much more connections with 1.50, as well as better speeds (up and down).
That might be your issue. In your place, I'd try updating to 1.50 to see what happens.Fix a Mac-centric peer connection bug from 1.41

Re: Version 1.4.2 will not download certain torrents
Thanks for replying. I did look at that list of changes to version 1.5 and wondered about it. But I'm never the first person to install updated software, as I prefer to avoid problems with new releases (I waited until apple came out with 10.3.1, 10.4.1, 10.5.1 before installing those operating systems)
I was really hoping that someone might offer a fix to use on 1.4.2.
Anyone?

guilherme already did give you a suggestion on how to make it work... there's not going to be a 1.43, so asking for 1.42 plus bugfixes when you're not willing to give 1.50 a try is kind of silly.macpro wrote:Thanks for replying. Re: Version 1.4.2 will not download certain torrents
I wasn't intending to be difficult and I didn't say that I thought this was a bug, or that I was asking for 1.4.3.
I thought perhaps there was some setting that could be tweaked that would provide a change in Transmission's behavior.
I decided to try Transmission 1.5. I first made a backup of all my version 1.4.2 settings (prefs, app support, caches), so I could revert if necessary.
So far so good. Version 1.5 seems faster than 1.4.2 and 4 of the 5 torrents that wouldn't start before are now working. Hopefully the last one (which is listed as having 50 seeders) will start in the next 24 hours.
