This is probably a stupid question, but I haven't been able to find the answer - I recently realized that in the Inspector, in the "Files" tab, by clicking on either side of the blue dot under the "Rank" column, I could rank the files in a torrent. (At least, that's what I assume is happening.)
So I can now give it a blue dot, which is normal or default I guess, or an orange arrow pointing down, or a green arrow point up. What do these mean? Originally, I thought this meant it was a rating I was giving it for how much priority I was giving it as far as how much I wanted the file. So, by giving it the green arrow, I was ranking it up, saying I wanted it more, which I assumed meant that in a multi-file torrent, if everything was going well, I would most likely complete downloading those files in the torrent first. I assumed the red downwards-pointing arrow meant I was ranking that file down, and the computer would focus less on getting those files.
Now, looking at the numbers a day later as things have been downloading, I'm not so sure that's the case. Does the green upward pointing arrow tell Transmission I want to upload/seed those files more than others, and the red downwards pointing arrow say I want download those files more? Do I understand this rank column at all? Just looking for a little clarity.
So sorry this is kind of dumb, I'm probably missing something obvious - I just couldn't find any documentation on this. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!
Ranking files for download?
Re: Ranking files for download?
In theory you were right. With orange/green/no arrow you can give a priority to every single file. Example, you want to download first.pdf before second.pdf: if quite all of your peers have only second.pdf and just a couple of them have first.pdf, you'll download second.pdf more faster than first.pdf. You'll download faster first.pdf only if a lot of people have both files. Hope you understand my terrible english.
But…
I started a thread some days ago about file priority. I think there's a bug and everytime you restart Transmission you have to manually set all files to normal priority and then give the priority you want. Even if Transmission shows the right arrow, it treat all files with normal priority.

Re: Ranking files for download?
Ok, i cannot understand from reading this thread or other forum posts, and it is not mentioned in the....
Exactly what do the "Rank" buttons do? What does green mean? What does orange mean?
I would encourage putting an explanation in Transmission's Help.

Re: Ranking files for download?
if you right click it you can see what it means. Green is high priority and red is low prioritytmcdanel wrote:Ok, i cannot understand from reading this thread or other forum posts, and it is not mentioned in the....
