Can't delete files like in Linux

Post by pupeno »

Hello,

Using the Linux client I used to delete files downloaded by Transmission while still download. So those that I didn't need anymore and that were done downloading were deleted. Transmission on Linux was totally happy with that but on MacOSX it says: "Error: no such file or directory". Understandable. So I went to uncheck the files I've already download, like I did in Linux (although there it wasn't a *requirement*) but on MacOSX it's not possible. Finished files are grayed out and un-uncheckable. So how can I do it? Delete some downloaded files?

Thanks.

You drag the files to the trash from the finder, like any other program. Afterwards just re-verify the data in Transmission ("Verify Local Data" in the Transfers menu).

The check for files in the inspector is just to toggle what you want to download - doesn't make sense to disable downloading of a file you already have.

I've missed the re-verify local data. I suppose it'll find I deleted some files and start to download them again because they are checked and then I'll have to go and uncheck them. Kind of contrived process. Thanks.

Well the assumption is you're not going to be deleting data all that often. The more confusing option is deselecting files that are already download, in which case the check means nothing on or off. Perhaps if you don't want files you should deselect them before adding.

Well, I do delete data often and the Linux client has no problem with that. I understand that de-selecting a finished files means: stop seeding and reading that file. I want to download the files and that's why they are selected in the first place, but I need them only for a very short period of time, after I'm done with it I continue to the next one.

You are wrong. De-selecting a file only stops anymore downloads of it - nothing else.

Ok. It would be handy still to be able to de-select finished files, so that when I erase them they don't start downloading again; but the real problem is that Transmission for Mac doesn't handle removal of a file like Transmission for Linux.

I don't understand "doesn't handle removal the same"? What isn't it doing? And I've already explained why the checks are disabled, and in 99% of situations users aren't removing parts of transfers.

How do I enter my passkey to connect to an internet connection on a Linux Ubuntu? You see, the network to access the internet here at home requires a password to connect to it, should you be using a Mac or a Windows based OS. However, my Linux just connects to the network without asking for a password. But I can't access the internet since I didn't enter the password. And I have no idea how to enter it. Any help?
