Speed Settings, Kilobytes or Kilobits?

Post by redred »

I'm trying to configure my speed settings. What does KB stand for in Transmission, Kilobits (kb), or Kilobytes (kB)?

My speed is:

Download = 703.6 kB/s
Upload = 92.5 kB/s

I intend to only use 80% of my upload speed for Transmission.

I'm following this guide to help me configure the settings. It says that the Global Maximum Connections should be upload speed x 80%. Now in kB this would be 73 x 58, which is 4234. Does this sound right? It seems a bit much to me.

In Transmission, kB stands for Kilobytes.
Your upload cannot be faster than your download, so I believe UL = 92.5 KB/s.
So in your case, set the max upload speed to 80% of 92 = 73, or even lower to be comfortable.

Yes, the upload is 92kB/s! I've corrected it, and also the GBC calculation, I've no idea why I was so off.

In fact your UL can be faster, but if you have such internet you have to be rich :P

Not necessarily. I have my speeds capped this way: 3375 kiloBYTES/s (NOT kiloBITS!!!) for download and 3000 kiloBYTES/s for upload. This means that my ISP gives me symmetrically wide channel of 30 megabits per second. And I'm not rich really. Hahaha. ;)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

P.S.: Sorry, I'm just showing off. But the speeds are real. It's just how the things are in Moscow, Russia. :) Cheers!
