Port is closed

Post by wrinkly1987 »

here is my log:

2009-05-11 20:28:10 +0200 blocklist.c:110 [Info] Transmission: Blocklist "level1.bin" contains 223312 entries
2009-05-11 20:28:20 +0200 upnp.c:159 [Info] Port Forwarding (UPnP): Stopping port forwarding through "http://192.168.3.1:5000/ctl/IPConn", service "urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:WANIPConnection:1"
2009-05-11 20:28:20 +0200 port-forwarding.c:102 [Info] Port Forwarding: State changed from "Forwarded" to "Not forwarded"
2009-05-11 20:28:28 +0200 upnp.c:194 [Info] Port Forwarding (UPnP): Port forwarding through "http://192.168.3.1:5000/ctl/IPConn", service "urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:WANIPConnection:1". (local address: 192.168.3.9:51413)
2009-05-11 20:28:28 +0200 upnp.c:197 [Info] Port Forwarding (UPnP): Port forwarding successful!
2009-05-11 20:28:28 +0200 port-forwarding.c:102 [Info] Port Forwarding: State changed from "Not forwarded" to "Forwarded"

I notice it says that port forwarding is successful - but then I don't understand why it still says "port is closed"

first there is a search option in the forums, please use it... there are 100+ topic about this.
Try to search in the in-build help or at the wiki ( trac.transmissionbt.com ) about 2 guides, one about forwarding a router and one about forwarding a firewall (I think you need the last one)

I have used the search function and read topics giving the same advice. My firewall is set to allow all incoming connections.

Yes I read the guide and I've successfully forwarded ports before so I'm familiar with doing so. The open port check tool site says that connection is refused when i enter 51413 :/

I have searched it in google, and I think (not sure though) it is some problem with your router. Did you sucsesfully forwarded with this router before?

maybe your router doesn't support port forwarding for a mac? (not sure if that is even possible)

Nope, that isn't possible essiw  Networking equipment for the most part is platform agnosic.

wrinkly1987, are you using any proxy services? Are you using UPNP (Universal Plug N Play) on your router? Have you tried changing the port #? Can you post a screen shot of your port forwarding?

Hi timta2,
No I'm not using a proxy. I have actually disabled UPNP in my router, so no. I have tried using one or two different ones but I don't see why I should need to. I have attached some pics

In transmission preferences under network do you have selected the checkbox automatic port... (don't know the exact name, because I have a dutch version)? IF you have try unselecting it.

hmm strange... the only thing that could be wrong is the firewall, but you said you are allowing all incoming connections. So that means you have the firewall off...

Exactly... I'm usually good at resolving these issues but I have no idea what to do here. I've reinstalled transmission and updated the router firmware, changed my network settings to use manual and dhcp and in all cases the problem persists. :(

Edit: Is it possible that the port is indeed forwarded to my local IP address (192.168.3.9) but somehow still shows up as closed when transmission runs its test? I have the same problem with "shakespeer" so I doubt it has anything to do with the application software... Do you think the wireless security might have anything to do with it?

I never mentioned that I have recently set up my macbook to use the proxy configuration at my University. Of course when I get back home I disable the proxy settings in firefox. Is there anything else regarding proxy settings I may have overlooked that may be the cause of this?
