Transmission 1.74 (Stable) crashes on iMac 9,1 10.5.8

Post by Phantom Helix »

Hi, i have been having real trouble since updating from 1.73 10 1.74 (8993)

what happens is at some point transmission hangs indefinitely, to the point i have to force quit it, even after i do so and it is removed from the list in Activity Monitor the frozen icon still remains in the dock, and relaunching the dock does not remove it and the process is no longer in activity monitor yet the system says it is still running with the error code below

If I try to relaunch transmission after this happens I get error code -600 and once it even killed my ability to use the internet altogether until I restarted the system, system restarts also hang until I hold the power button but only after transmission hangs, otherwise restarts work correctly.

I am usually using iTunes 8.2.1 and Safari 4.0.3 (5531.9) also when Trans hangs.

I did Notice once in Activity Monitor Trans did NOT display the "intel (64 bit)" in the KIND column during one of the hangs, however if i remember correctly this was after i had used CleanMyMac 1.5.3 to strip the universal binary to intel only, trans did work after doing that but i think it may have stripped the 64bit part instead of the PPC part, either way after re-downloading trans 1.74 it still hangs randomly.

The only way it does not hang is if it is the only active app and i have left it overnight while I sleep

The only thing in the logs i could find in the logs
8/26/09 4:00:42 AM Transmission[517] Error loading /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/Hear.plugin/Contents/MacOS/Hear: dlopen(/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/Hear.plugin/Contents/MacOS/Hear, 262): no suitable image found. Did find:

I just tried 1.74 (8996) and it does exactly the same thing, i think im going to have to go back to 1.73 until this is fixed

i grabbed a screen of activity monitor not showing transmission process after it has been force quit and the error -600 when trying to relaunch it and the frozen dock icon

I just downloaded the new version (whoops!) and its happening to me. Go to your Apps folder and finder Transmission, Get Info on the app and click the option to run as 32 bit. This seemed to work on mine. There's another post on here that talks about libcurl, but i dunno about that...

It looks like you have some third-party system extensions installed, and they're probably not 64-bit compatible.

So far running it in 32 seems to have worked, but shouldn't there have been some kind of warning when updating to the new version with 64-bit support that conflicts with 32-bit kext's from other apps exist?

That applies to all 64-bit apps. It's the risk you take when installing third-party extensions.

BTW Are there any real benefits from running TM in 64-bit mode?
