*bump*

I'm having exactly the same problem, it's a bloody pain in the next.
It was working fine until the latest stable 1.75 build was out now everything is dead :(

Are old version (pre 1.74) still available, so we could try an old version?

However, I ran a test under Win XP Boot Camp - same with uTorrent!! Could be a router problem instead of Snow Leo ...

Could be a plan, I'm at work and will try when I'm home.

Weird thing is that the torrents aren't transferring *at all*, usually when a port is not forwarded the transfers just go very slow...

FWIW, I'm using the following settings:

Global maximum connections: 100
New transfers: 50
Pex: off
DHT: off

That's very limited, but mostly I only have one or two simultaneous torrents running.

I've tried changing the port to other random ports with no luck.

but...

I just changed it to 65533 and forwarded the port on my router and all of a sudden the port is open?!
It was definitely forwarded correctly before (I am a computer tech).

the bad news:

Transfers still aren't moving.

Just used appzapper to remove all config files related to Transmission and installed the old 1.74 version.
Put the same port in that my last install reported as open (65533) and it's now reporting it as closed.

Can anyone work on a fix for this?

Hey everyone,

I strongly believe it is neither Snow Leopard nor Transmission 1.75 - it's the router hardware. Boot Camp has the same issues and I'm now at a friend's house with a different router ... and downloading with 1,75 MBit! Runs like hell ^_^

So, it must be the router (NetGear e.g.)

No, it's not my router.
I'm a network engineer / tech for a 9000+ user hospital dealing with routers and switches day in and day out.
My router running the latest stable pfsense has no problems forwarding ports to other applications or users.

I've just scrapped transmission and am now using utorrent on the same port and its working fine.

Hi guys,

I strongly believe it has to be the router. I tested at a friend's place and Transmission downloaded with up to 1,7 M where I normally only got 400-800 K. Besides I tried a 3G Surf Stick and had no problems. As soon as I'm using the standard home WLAN access the connection is lost every minute or so!

It may be the router in your case, because most of the cheapo routers you buy from the shelf just don't handle a lot of connections very well.

It is most definitely not the router in my case though. I am connected through an enterprise class firewall that handles a total of 60.000 concurrent connections and is able to setup 3.000 new connections per second, with a total firewall throughput of 1,2 gbit/sek. So... no.... it's NOT the router.

It's not my router, Other torrent apps work perfectly on the same ports with no settings changed.

funkahdafi - I agree with you; most of the small embedded routers you buy at the local computer shop are pretty rubbish at handling large packet flow.
They have very underpowered chips (most don't even have heatsinks!)
They limit the maximum number of concurrent connections and they are just no good for a proper network - we have 12 network devices in our flat.

For anyone with a small embedded router - I strongly suggest you look at setting yourself up an old computer as a pfsense box.

How about doing a re install of standard Leopard.. SL seems broken in so many ways apart from this one.. Many peole having constant freezing and the BBoD (Beach Ball of Death) leading to having to do a hard shut down via the Power button. I often get Finder crashing and reporting 'Unable to restart Finder error - 10801'
Some, with laptops report the machine not runnin gat all on batteries...it just freezes

The update from Apple to SL 10.6.1 does not seem to have helped, if anything on my machine it is now worse

Looks like Apple are starting to follow in Microsofts footsteps and not test their new releases out properly before they are released on the public.

I plan to do a clean re install this weekend when I get home...back to ordinary Leopard, and stick the SL DVD at the back of the drawer till Apple get it fixed, it is a donkey at the moment

10.6 works fine here. No problems at all. And just like after 10.5, Transmission will gradually require 10.6 for features and will fairly aggressively drop 10.5 support.

meh, I've given up on transmission for at least the time being.
uTorrent has progressed nicely and works perfectly for me.
Not about to reinstall my OS when the only thing wrong is a single piece of software.
