most of the time when trying to download anything early on it'll just stop and say input/output error, I tried downloading the newest nightly to see if that helped but it still won't work. I'm using transmission 1.51+ (8133) and mac osx 10.5.6.

I use 1.52 on a headless machine. Downloads start and pause after approx. 5min. "input/output error"

What's going wrong can I check a log?

There's no log, if you want to see more info then run the daemon as foreground process and look at the output on your terminal.

Fill in the user and options you usually use.

Input/output error could be as simple as "full file system", check the partition where your downloads are stored (i.e. df -kh); are you using a NAS? you didn't specify a download dir... and run it as root (home happens to be on the flash disk).

Same Happened with me. i tried to do the method of copying (Copy the whole directory in another folder then start transmission then start the same torrent to download it. then after it starts fresh download then stop the download/transmission and go to that folder and delete new folder from disk and keep or paste the old one... then start the transmission, it verifies the data and starts downloading from the point which it gave error from), i used this technique but still it gave error message (input/output) eventually got the solution, import the download file folder from Ktorrent every thing will work fine... because when i tried to import those file with transmission it imported all right but when you start it again it shows the error. Ktorrent is the solution without any harm.....

I'm using Transmission 1.61 on a Mac: OS X 10.5.7
I'm having the same problems, the input/output error is stopping the download more and more frequently the closer it gets to the end. I'm not super computer savvy, so I don't really understand what the other posts say on how to fix it... Lay person terms please?!

I have a torrent stuck at 96.03% with an "Input/Output" error. I've checked the logs and the only thing that remains consistent with this error is a failed checksum. Disk space is not an issue, as I have other torrents downloading just fine (and I've also checked the available space, almost 40Gig). I would try a nightly build, except that the computer I'm using transmission on is old, slow, and lacks the proper libraries. So far I have not been able to reproduce the error. Any help on this would be awesome.

I'd guess for bad permissions on the files?

Where do you see the failed checksum? When this happens usually the piece is just downloaded again, from somewhere else if the error repeats and if possible (but if there is only one seeder ...) Do you see that there is a "Corrupt DL"? using 'transmission-remote -t # -i' where # is the number of the specific torrent (as listed by transmission-remote -l).

I/O error is usually a file system error. You could try stopping the download, make a copy of the downloaded files, switch copies, and start downloading (the daemon will verify first). The point of all that dancing is to work around file system corruption (yes, you could also run an fsck, but in a live system is not reliable you would have to reboot and fsck at boot time).

I got the same problem. I'm running transmission 1.72 on my Mac osx 10.5.7 and the closer my download goes to the end, the more frequently the input/output error occurs. I have to "resume selected" every 60 seconds, my download got 99,81% and this method is absolutely unuseable.

I had the same thing happen to me tonight. The clue was that the download kept pausing at 99%. I believe that when a transfer reaches 100%, Transmission copies (not moves) the files from the "partial" folder to the "completed" folder. Here are some things to check:

(1) Does the Torrent you're downloading contain any extremely large files? Does your hard drive's format support files that large?

For example, FAT32 hard drives, like External drives, cannot support files over 4 GB. This means that if you're downloading a 4.4 GB file, and the "partial" folder is on a drive that uses "HFS+", also called "HFS Plus" or "Mac OS Extended Format", and that the "complete" folder is on an external drive that uses "FAT32", the copy operation will most likely fail. This might be unlikely for most people, but it's something to check.

(2) Do you have enough free space on your drive?

If your 400 MB download is almost complete, but you only have 300 MB free space after the download reaches 99%, a second copy of the file cannot be created.

Either of the above might cause this problem, but it still did not fix it for me. Any other ideas?

Mine started having the same issue. It was with an external hard drive, and after restarting my computer, that very hard drive isn't showing up on my mac anymore. I wonder if the hard drive is failing, and if the input/output error I was getting was somehow related to it?

(am from mexico so SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH) OK so, i was having the same problem, my torrent stopped at 99.94% of downloading 13.9GB of a VideoGame

so it just didnt download after this... so, this is the way o git the problem solve.


i found another torrent with the same discs than the FAILED 99% torrent and.. i change the discs from the first torrent folder to the new torrent folder

then transmission just starting checking the torrent and updating the download until the 99.94% and then it starts downloaging the file... ok so for you to understand what i did, ill try to explain it with some name files...

torrent_1_gta4: disc1.iso disc2.iso readme.rtf <------- this one failed at 99.94%
torrent_2_gta4: disc1.iso disc2.iso leeme.rtf readme.rtf Crack.rtf <------- this is the one i search for After the first one Droped the Job...

so i grab the files Disc1.iso Disc2.iso from the folder torrent_1_gta4 and paste them into folder Torrent_2_gta4.
then transmission check the torrent and updates the download downloading the las %missing from the files


so you just need another torrent that contains the same files that u r already downloading and u can finish your download without RE DOWNLOADING all the files Again
