transmission-daemon's high cpu usage

Post by ans »

I'm running transmission-daemon 1.76 on FreeBSD, with no more than a few (10) torrents at a time, and transmission-daemon constantly uses up about 20% of the CPU. I don't think transmission-gtk has the same problem, but maybe just not at the very start. I'll let it run for a while and see.

I don't know what else to tell you, so tell me if you need any more info to help diagnose the problem.

Here is the output of ps on transmission-daemon:

Code: Select all

PID STAT TIME SL RE PAGEIN VSZ RSS LIM TSIZ %CPU %MEM COMMAND
83164 Rs 247:53.69 127 127 2 67608 65000 - 400 20.1 4.2 transmission-daemon

I run 1.76 on a dinky NAS processor so I turned off PEX and DHT and encryption and that seemed to help a little on the CPU utilization. Still a lot higher than I would have expected it to be judging by posts I've seen on this forum and another.

Well I've been running transmission-gtk now, on the same config, with the same torrents, and for the first few hours its been fine, but now it too ramped up to 10% cpu usage, just seeding 2 torrents, with another few just idleing there. This is most unacceptable.

Profiling data would be extremely helpful.

Er, no, that's not what I wanted to say. There's no way we can possibly fix that without profiling data.
