Why am I only downloading to a small number of peers

Hi-

Fairly new to Transmission

latest nightly build of 1.76
Powermac G5
10.5.8

changed maximum download connections to 100
yet on a torrent with 20,000 seeders

it says "downloading from 38 of 100 peers"
of course that fluctuates, but never approaches 100 ( maybe gets up to 50 or so at times )
is this normal?

also curious on what the generally average download speeds are
referring to that same file, I am getting an average of about 200 - 250 kb/s
is this normal as well?

I just want to get this set up to connect to as many peers as possible as well as maximizing the download speed....

Not every peer is going to be sending data to you. This is normal.

Ok, so even if there are 20,000 seeders
it's normal to only get connected to 30 - 50?

You're only going to connect to the 100 or so you're given, and from there you're only going to download from a percentage.

I cannot increase the number of peers i download to. it is stuck at 1 from 1 for all downloads irrespective of size of seeders. I have latest Tx download and have following settings:
download rate - 1000
upload rate 100
global max connections - 1000
max connections for new transfers - 1000
use peer exchange and use hash ticked
i am running snow leopard


anyone offer any advice to increase download speed

fixed problem by going to inspector and looking in settings and seeing default number of connections is set to 1. changed to 1000 and everything speeded up
