Transmission 1.80b1

Post by unblocktheplanet »

I just downloaded and installed Transmission 1.80b1 from Macupdate. I'm not much an early adopter by nature but I was eager for the new version for DHT and magnet link support (technicalities of which I must admit I know nothing) as torrent trackers everywhere are under assault.

v.1.76 was happily downloading. Now that I've installed 1.80b1, all downloads and uploads are stuck firmly at ZERO!

Am I missing some vital setup information? Or...have those fiendish capitalists posted spamware/malware/or just plain don't-workware?!?

Any help appreciated.

Just downloaded it and it so far seems to run fine for me on Leopard.

One thing I really don't like, however, is that the information about the # of seeders and leechers has been moved off the bottom of the Peers tab and onto the Tracker tab. I often deal with small-swarm torrents and it's nice to have that info on the Peers tab.

I've been switching between 1.75 and 1.80b1, and I'm clearly getting better *download* speeds on 1.75. The peer tab on 1.80b1 shows up and down connections, but most peers only show upload activity, most download connections are at 0.0. A switch to 1.75 immediately results in download activity.

It's probably more noticeable for me since I'm running small-swarm torrents. After running 1.80b1 for a few minutes I was getting 3-5KB/s down on 2 different torrents almost all activity was from seeders. Switching to 1.75 almost immediately brought them up to the 25-55 KB/s range and all download "connections" showed activity - both seeders and leechers.

Guess I'm staying with 1.75 again.

1.80b1 runs just fine on 10.6.2. Excellent download speeds here.

Awesome work from the authors!

Testing 1.80b1 (updated from the last stable version) on OS X 10.6.2. Bug: I cannot move any downoad (running/done/stopped) to another folder by selecting this action from the icon menu in the download list. I click on this action and nothing happens. But it does work if I use the same action over the program menu.

dimiro: Which "icon menu" do you refer to? Moving data using "Move Data File To.." when right-clicking on an item works fine for me.

Hi Everyone,

First post. I updated to 1.80b1 and have been getting constant error messages: Tracker returned an error. Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker.

Uninstalled 1.80b1 and installed 1.76 and the error messages went away. Are there any files to delete before upgrading.

This is an error from (one of the) trackers. The reason it doesn't appear in 1.76 is because it doesn't connect to all of the trackers.

livings124,

Thanks for replying. What should I do when this happens?

You can just ignore it assuming you're connecting to other trackers (and peers).

Just wanted to say I've had the same experience as the original poster, and so I've downgraded back to 1.76.
It seems that even though it know about peers for each of my torrents, it just doesn't connect to them.

I'm on 10.5.8, on an Early 2006 iMac which is connected via wireless. I have a static port forwarded through my router.

I'll monitor this thread, so feel free to ask questions if it can help.

Yesterday everything worked well for me on 1.80b1 but today TM only connects to 1 or 2 peers per torrent. Downloadinig is a flatline while uploading seems to be fine.
I noticed that TM only connects to peers that are not yet finished with the specific torrents.

Edit: Tried 1.76 again and it grabs peers like there is no tomorrow.

I had the same problem with no down- and uploads after installing 1.80b1.
However, after deactivating our Socks5 Proxy the data transfers worked as before.
Possibly the proxy settings are broken or have changed in 1.80b1.
(all other programs work with the proxy as before)

Currently using: TM 1.76+ (9684), Mac OS X 10.6.2

Fiete5401 and jorkus: can you come into our irc room #transmission on freenode so that we can try to fix this problem.

Rolcol told me in #transmission that you were bending your wookie instead of taking care of me. ;)
I found out that after I paused a torrent TM is no longer able to grab more than 1-3 peers.
