How to direct Transmission to an existing folder?

Post by Bradamante »

Hi

quick question: I use Transmission to pull stuff. Fine. Now let's say I want to help somebody seed stuff. He gave me the material on a disc. I want Transmission to seed it. I download the friend's torrent file. Now how do I tell Transmission where the already existing download is so it starts seeding?

Am I the only one with this problem?!

Thx

no, you're not. I just made a post about how my stuff wasn't verifying correctly because of a few change overs with my external HDD. I'd love to hear how to do this too...

In case of unix or any other file system able to make use of links just make a softlink between your directory of data or the filenames and whatever transmission expects. It is not a very good solution, but a workable one. Would definitly be nice to be able to set the directory for a torrent completly / rename the torrent, some have just stupid names.

Try Right Click for Context Menu > Set Location > [Choose Location You Want] > [Select radio dial button for 'Local data is already There']

Why is it that I don't have anything called "Set Location" in the context menus for a torrent? You say this and I've seen it mentioned elsewhere but it's not an option either in the context menu or in the "Action" (gear) menu. There is a "Move Data File To..." option. Is that what you mean? But I don't want to use that because I already moved the data in the Finder. It was a 40+ gig file and I didn't want to trust Transmission to properly copy data that large. So I just want to "Set Location" -- ie point it to the new location -- without moving, but there is no such option in Transmission 1.76. The "Move Data File To..." option has no "radial button" saying that is already there either.

Help?

Yes, the "Move Data File To..." option, is the one available with the Mac OS X version.
OK... That involves several extra steps, including re-saving the .torrent file as something (since original automatically deleted when first adding).

Why not support the "Set Location As..." function on OS X? As I recall, several in-app dialogs also refer to this, apparently erroneously.
