This is a non-dramatic subtle issue:
When a torrent's name is long, it may be truncated in the downloads list to ensure the current status information can be displayed. If that status information is the current DL/UL speed and the transfer rates vary, the length of the string that is displayed varies (say, because you are seeing transfer rates between 5 and 200 KB/s, which require a different amount of space to be displayed), it can result in a somewhat 'nervous' display on screen because some letters of the torrent's name disappear/reappear when the transfer rate changes.
When Transmission's window is visible in the background, this can be quite distracting as things appear to move in the window even though nothing particularly interesting is happening.
I suppose it may be tricky to find a truly good solution for this, but I thought I should mention this detail.
Screenshot to illustrate the issue: the characters _g keep disappearing and reappearing as the transfer speed changes.

I'm not sure what the "right" solution would be, though.
Re: Suggestion: more static display of torrent name
I agree. I couldn't think of a simple way to handle this either. For 'proper' handling one would probably need to track the recent string lengths or something, which sounds like quite a bit of effort.

i guess a basic possibility would be to allow the filename display to be shortened if the speeds increase, but then not allow it to be lengthened again. it still might change to start with but it wouldn't get "twitchy" with constant changes.
i'm not too bothered either way, just a thought
