Web Interface on iPhone?

Post by bobsmith »

When I first came across the web interface for transmission I was excited and hoped I could use it on my iPhone. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. I have investigated a solution and have been unable to find one.

Am I missing something? Is there a relatively easy work around this issue?

Using transmission 1.76 (9392) on a 2.2GHz MacBook.

I opened the web interface through the Transmission preferences, get the address Safari used on the computer and put it into the iPhone safari address bar and it tells me "Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server".

I'm not sure why it doesn't work with the same address as the one my computer used. super-poussin or anyone else, do you have any more thoughts as to why this isn't working?

Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to access the site through through AT&T's G3 wireless network, or from a location where you're on a wi-fi network? That might make all the difference.

AT&T has gained some notoriety for blocking certain websites and services (sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently). Try opening the web interface using wi-fi instead of the 3G network. AT&T doesn't control your local wi-fi network, and you can do a lot of things on wi-fi that AT&T won't allow on their 3G network. Slingbox is a good example, if you don't already know the story: http://mediamemo.allthingsd.com/2009051 ... er-tv-app/ It's possible that AT&T doesn't even want to be remotely associated with something as horrible and immoral as file sharing. You and I are evil, evil people.

Having said all that, the problem is likely caused by something else. I don't own an iPhone, so this is just a guess. Paranoia about big, evil corporations is fun, though.

Wait, I only skimmed thru your post...but your are trying to access transmission thru your iphone browser. Right?

If so, why do you have "localhost" in the address bar. You would need the actual external IP of the computer running transmission.

Localhost get's translated to 127.0.0.1 which is called the loopback address, as in the device will loop back and connect to itself. So your iphone, would not be trying to connect to your computer, but to itself.....

Again ignore me, if that's your aim....

Ah yes demons33derxx. The localhost part was the problem. I put in my computers IP address and it worked nicely, but it was a bit slow on the 3G network. Although now there are two more issues I noticed immediately:

1. When I upload a torrent file with my iPhone it doesn't save to the correct place on my computer. Is there a way to change that?
2. As far as I can tell there is no way to organize the torrent files on my phone so they are displayed in a particular order, i.e. by progress, name, etc. Did I overlook the place to do it?

Cheers!

Hello,

I stumbled upon this post and got excited to finally find a way to make this web interface work on my iphone !
I read everything here and understand that after all, it works for you, "bobsmith" ??
Could you please tell me how exactly do you have to write the adress in order to access the web interface from an iphone (on an external network like a 3G phone network)

I tried to connect using this kind of adress (fake IP here for the example)

With the wifi ethernet adress
http://00:25:8c:97:47:56:9091/transmission/web/#info

With the Ext IP adress iStat pro tells me i have
http://46.56.81.294:9091/transmission/web/#info

Both of these do not work, could someone kindly guide me through the correct process ? : )
I run the latest version of transimssion on a unibody macbook pro

Thank you !

Did you remember to forward the port on you router? Are you using ip6 on your local wifi? Try using an ip4 address.
Don't forget to allow the connecting ip in transmission's settings. I think it only allows localhost by default.

I notice that this is being completely ignored as an issue depsite other peoples issues all being looked at and responded to. It really can't be that difficult to fix since it was working before, and I can't be the only person with the problem?

The web interface works just fine for me on 1.80-1 on my NAS. No one here reporting the problem has reported that they have forwarded the ports on their router.

1. If you are using transmission-daemon you need to set the RPC white-list to accept any address, by default it will not accept connections from other computers and you will get a rejected or not allowed error.
2. You should set an RPC password or anyone will be able to mess with it
3. You need to forward an external port to your internal computer, look at your routers documentation and you should reserve or set a static IP for the computer running transmission.
4. You will need to figure out what your external IP is, this can be done with whatismyip.com from within your home network, you then should be able to connect to the web interface at http://yourexternalip:port/

OK i have tried this every which way from Sunday and it wont work for me.

I am trying to access Transmission on my desktop at home which is a dynamic IP thru my Iphone. Just to test I have tried to remote into Transmission through my Iphone at home without being on wifi cause most places I would be using this would be not in a WIFI area. So that being said can someone please help me with this. I am computer literate but hardly technical when it comes to networking.

I am on 1.83
