I have been downloading quite a large torrent (11 GB) for the past week, and for the first 3 or 4 days downloads were very slow, under 5 KB/S. It also slowed down everything on my network (google took about a minute to load). I figured this is because of my ISP, Starhub (Singapore), which has a reputation for blocking lots of ports and throttling Bittorrent data significantly. I tried to open up some ports, but to no avail. Using Network Utility, it came up with zero ports open, so I decided to use my friend's network. He is on SingNet, which does not throttle Bittorrent. I managed to get around 100KB/S max, which is not much but still very good compared with before. Then, yesterday, the speeds dropped to under 5KB/S again. I cannot open ports on his account, since I am not the admin, so I tried using UPnP/NAT-PMP. Still nothing. I scanned for open ports again, and nothing. I checked the slow speeds checklist, and came up with some results:
1: Network.
2: Trackers. Most are up, 77 Seeds 160 Leechers.
3: Seeders. Its about 1:2, same as it always has been.
4: Speed Limits. Both overall and per torrent settings are way above the speeds I'm getting or have ever gotten.
5: Small Swarm. No.
6: ISP Throttling: I can't tell. Glasnost keeps failing me, but they are probably blocking now.
7: Version: Using Transmission 1.76+ r9945 Nightlies version.
8: Ports: No ports open.
9: Bug. Don't think so, happened with every Nightlies version I used.
What do you think? I've tried everything. I think a VPN might be good. Anyone got any offers? Suggestions? Help?
Thanks in advance!
