[LOCKED DUPLICATE] Inactive Memory Lock-up

Post by baftab »

When downloading with transmission 1.80 (9983) and prior, ALL free memory quickly becomes inactive memory. After quitting transmission, the inactive memory is not freed-up and is not available to other processes until system restart.

Why do I have to restart my computer after using Transmission?? I know a few other people have this problem. Does anybody else experience this?

I read this post http://forum.transmissionbt.com/viewtop ... ory#p42121 and tried deleting the last file transmission downloaded. When the file was deleted, a chunck of inactive memory was made free and the chunk of freed memory equalled the size of the file deleted. There has to be a way for transmission to properly release this memory, at least upon quitting the application.

Yes, that is how it is supposed to work. However, this "inactive" memory does not seem to be able to be used by other applications like it should. For some reason the inactive memory created by transmission is not accessible like inactive memory created by other applications. I challenge you to test this so you can see that it is not accessible. Sap your ram by downloading large files with transmission. Then try to run another program that is ram hungry. The result is pinwheel, lag and a whole bunch of inactive memory that is useless to the new application. I'm not the only person who is having issues with this. The answer is obviiously not found or described by the links to how inactive ram SHOULD work. The problem is, with Transmission... it does not work.
